History and Mission of HCC and the Bookstore
AREA MAP
Howard Community College (HCC) was founded by the Howard County Board of Education in 1966, and that same year HCC received approval from the State of Maryland to become a community college. In October of 1970 the first classes took place in the College’s only teaching building at that time, the Learning Resources Center (now called the James Clark Jr. Library Building (CL)), which also housed the HCC bookstore. From HCC’s founding through 2007, the current “Quad” of buildings was completed. The HCC bookstore was moved to its current location in the Rouse Company Student Services Hall (RCF building) in 2007.
Like all college bookstores, the mission of the HCC bookstore is to supply students with the textbooks and supplies that they need for courses offered by the College. In addition, the Bookstore carries snacks, memorabilia and specialty items, such as class rings, graduation gowns, etc.
